i have openGl error

Postby SLO-TimMa » Thu Nov 26, 2009 12:28

Last week i have 2 times strange problem. i was playing ET as normally and suddenly screen freeze and after 2-3 sec. i have black screen for 2 sec. and then i have very low brightness. i couldnt fix it on ET so i go out of it and on my deskop i have very big icons so i had to fix it in properties...

Then i restart my computer (i think). Then ET works fine. This happened 2-3 times.
But today i launch ET and suddenly i read (on the end) :

WARNING: missing Glide installation, assuming no 3Dfx available
...shutting down QGL
----- CL_Shutdown -----
RE_Shutdown( 1 )
-----------------------
GLW_StartOpenGL() - could not load OpenGL subsystem

i go to FAQ on PS and read it. Now i still dont know what to do. I scan my computer
and get this out:

Radeon X1300 Series 0.0 Your PC currently has the latest driver installed for your GPU. No driver update is necessary at this time.

Radeon X1300 Series Secondary 0.0 Your PC currently has the latest driver installed for your GPU. No driver update is necessary at this time.

Resolution of my computer is: 1024x768 - 60Hz

Please help me.

Maybe You put wrong entry to variable. Try to use default profile settings by moving old configuration to backup directory to find it the problem is lying in wrong graphic settings for game.

hello slo-timma

it could be some other things :

The first thing to check is that your video card meets the game's requirements for at least a 16 MB video card with support for OpenGL.

To determine what type of video card you have:

1. Click Start.
2. Click Run.
3. In the box type DXDIAG. Click OK. This will bring up the DirectX Diagnostic Tool.
4. When the tool finishes loading, click the Display tab. In the Device section, next to Name, you'll find the name of your video card. You may want to write this down. Also, the Manufacturer is the company that manufactured your video card.
* The following video chipsets are supported:
o NVIDIA GeForceFX series
o NVIDIA GeForce4 series
o NVIDIA GeForce3 series
o NVIDIA GeForce2 series
o NVIDIA GeForce 256
o NVIDIA Riva TNT2
o NVIDIA Riva TNT
o ATI Radeon series
o ATI Rage 128 Pro
o ATI Rage 128
o PowerVR3 Kyro II
o PowerVR Kyro
5. Also, notice the Approximate Total Memory a couple lines below the name. If this reads less than approximately 16 MB, the card lacks sufficient video memory to run the game.
6. If you do have one of the listed video cards, it's likely then that you need to update your video drivers to the latest available. You can download drivers from your manufacturer’s website.
* Updating drivers (for various devices) should be part of your regular maintenance for your system.

This message can also occur if the computer has dual monitor support enabled. to render the game graphics. Unfortunately, OpenGL does not communicate properly with dual-display setups.

To solve this simply, just disable the second monitor. Here's how:

1. Right-click on the desktop background and select Properties.
2. Click on the Settings tab.
3. Click on the monitor that is labeled with a number 2.
4. Uncheck the box that says, Extend my Windows desktop onto this monitor.
5. Click Apply and then Ok. The game should now run properly.

this might be it?

good luck

I had the same issues some months ago.
Few minutes to seconds after start my ET crashed, when i wanted to restart it, this message came. Around the same time i started playing with my config files, but

I took hours to analyze the error codes openGL gives out in this console.
The only lines that need attention are:
Code: Select all
...failed to find an appropriate PIXELFORMAT
...restoring display settings
...WARNING: could not set the given mode (3)

To say it simple,
Code: Select all
openGL was not able to apply a screen resolution change request.
Also possible reasons are: faulty bit dept, or a faulty defined screen ratio.

My "solution" was a bit rough, i reinstalled ET and removed and reconfigured the graphics driver. I made it this way because the problem also occurred after i removed my config files form the et folders and deleted my profile.

I also made a from-scratch new config file (because the old one was pretty bad to read, much stuff in i did not know what it changes, etc...).
Then the problem did not appear anymore.

The problem may be caused from a buggy config (or at least once, not multiple times). The problem may also be outside ET, in the openGL files or the driver. But i never found out exactly. It may be possible a buggy config corrupts openGL over "lifetime" of the script and even the game session.

If you have questions feel free to ask :)
regards, Rainbow

Do you think that reinstal ET will work, because
reconfigured the graphics driver
don't hear really nice and i am 100% that i will do smth. wrong...
I have none to ask about it. Did you have still problems when you reinstal it?

This problems SO SUCK because i am not computer genius to solve them. Everytime i am f* with them. I am sorry for my language but i really hate it... It was working for 2 years normally. NO problems.

Every one there in links have problem with system32 but by me its normally:

calling LoadLibrary( 'C:\WINDOWS\system32\opengl32.dll' ): succeeded
They all have failed on that. But me not.

PFD means Pixel format Detector. Its part of the OpenGL subsystem and causes the
Code: Select all
..failed to find an appropriate PIXELFORMAT

To explain the message a bit more:
"GLW" of GLW_ChoosePDF is part of the openGL syntax, every openGL command starts with GL and ends with W (in windows enviroments) or X (for Linux-alike enviroments that use the X server).
The variables listed (32, 24, 0 ) describe bit depth, in bpp (bits per pixel).

I have no really idea how the problem is caused
You could look for all .cfg files in your et folders "etmain" and "noquarter" and post them here (better would be to upload them and post the link, because this gets pretty big). If theres something fauty in it i will find it.

you can try that after if my ide wont work.

but if you reinstall et make sure you make a copy of your etkey thats in your main (ETMAIN) couse that file save your xp and your admin level on server you have recieved.
after reinstall et.
install patch 2.60 then 2.60b
run et go to play online click on enable punkbuster. then quit et.
run pbweb.exe in etfolder/pb/
place the etkey back into etmain folder.
and start et up again.
hopefully it works.

if you got pretty well connection you should be done in few minutes (the reinstall) and other things.

hope it will help if not add me on xfire if you need any support in steps howto.

my xfire = prolite2006
