k now my question. i was thinking about buy an new computer.

and yea it's not buyed like this, it's just builded by a friend but well, think he could do that much better, cuz there are some errors cuz hardware don't like the other hardware my opinion (f.e. 1 festplatte doesn't work, i think all fine setted in bios, same with CD or DVD. it's exactly seted on primary / secundare rare/slave or how it is called but dunno why there are still errors...

first: should i maybe / is it possible to upgrade my computer and would it be much better. how expensive would that be and what needs to get updated?

second: when u think i should buy a new computer, please give me some suggestions. i want maybe something with a wather cooler but yea well it's not needed. i just want a good computer for frag a bit around and it's not that i want to pay 4000 € or something, maybe about 1000 € - 1200 € but if there is an way to upgrade my computer to a nice gaming style cheaper would also be great.

edit: just to add i have DSL 2000 without Fast Path in use and it stay like this cuz otherway i need to get a new router and my dad needs a new compter cuz DSL 6000 Telekom (Provider) Software doesn't run with Windows Millenium. 4 sure when my computer would run better i get XP but my dad use his computer only for business and it's a really old one and stay with Millenium.

thx for replys

ok, in my opinion...

no, dont upgrade your computer. your mainboard is probably too old to suit current standards (bus types etc.), so you won't be able to make use of the current peripheral standards (graphics, HD etc.).

literally icy, your pc is probably not worth more than what it costs to recycle it.

if you can spend 1000E on a new machine, it will be infintely better than spending 1000E in order to upgrade what you have now. ET doesnt require that much hardware performance (compared to other games - which is why you're able to play it at 12fps even with your current pc^^).

so get yourself a nice machine for 999E and make sure you got a good graphics card in it.

(or get a geek to build it for you, saves some money).

Wow graphiccard 64mb?
Ain't laughing but it's kinda sad !cy :p
About time to but a new comp :P

Well first off all the computer in German are much and much BIGGER and cheaper then computer in holland.

I should say to buy a new computer, becuase if u upgrade it with new tools(And you're tools are old atm): Here it's around the 1100? euro.
And with less then that u can buy a better computer.
And maybe in Germany it´s cheaper, if it isn´t just buy a new computer.

Hope i helped you good mate :)

Greetz and luck Mobius^

Finally !ce, I was waiting when you get rid of your rag and build new computer. :D Throw that old computer away, theres no point to upgrade that.. Can your friend overclock cpu? Ill put here my advice:

CPU:
Intel Core 2 Duo E6600
http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp..
-$313.00

MOTHERBOARD:
ASUS P5N32-E SLI Plus
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp..
-$196.99

MEMORY:
Crucial Ballistix 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp..
-$271.99

VIDEO CARD:
VGA 320-P2-N815-AR GeForce 8800GTS 320MB
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp..
-$304.99

HARD DRIVE:
Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 320GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp..
-$84.99

You want soundcard or are you willing to use integrated one? You can use your old DVD drive and your old case, dont have to buy those.. Thats ass kicking machine, best memory absolutely in that price range, Vista DX10 compatible videocard, and if you have skills to overclock your machine that motherboard is good for it. Thats good package :) Price would be 1172 dollars+ good mouse, its like 1230 dollars.

!cy look in the last etqw topic, my last post here is my config.
Imo u can buy a good computer in stors where hi-fi stuff are sell.
I have buy mine 900€ 1 year ago so i think that u can find a better one for the same price (german prices r maybe a little less cheeper but not much)

About build ur own computer, i don't see the interest except to have a nice appearence of ur tower because with a budget like this, many differences between components will be feel and some will be good and others crapy...

I think it's better to buy it in a store which will allow u to have a good guarantee and for this price u'll get a beautiful flat screen of 19" !!!

I think "fnac" shops exist in germany, i have buy mine here....

http://ankermann-pc.com/de/

i bought my pc here. You can custom made your own computer and they sent it to you. So far hadnt any problems with it and its cheaper than buy in store. They only way to get it all cheaper is to order parts from different stores, but that takes to long for me hhe

on tip, dont buy the newiest thing on the market, that is mostly expensive and not always better.

little example,

System: AMD So.AM2
Ausstattung:
- So.AM2 4600 X2 65W DualCore Athlon64Windsor: € 99.99
- So.AM2 MSI K9NBPM2-FID Quadro NVS 2 (SATAII/PCI-e): € 31.90
- PCI-e 256MB NVidia GeForce 7600-GT TD Triple-XXX TV-out: € 105.90
- SATA-II 300 GB MAXTOR 6V300F0 (7200rpm-16MB): € 53.90
- 256 MB 533MHz DDR II RAM
- DDR-II upgrade from 256MB to 1024MB SAMSUNG PC667: € 99.90
- DDR-II RAM 1024MB SAMSUNG PC667: € 99.90
- DVD-Drive IDE Samsung 16x/52x SH-D162C/BEWE: € 0.00
- DVD-Drive IDE Samsung 16x/52x SH-D162C/BEWE: € 15.90 --< you have to change this one, now you got 2 of the same hehe.
- Floppy Drive: € 6.50
- Standard Case Model 6801 (black/aluminum): € 0.00
- Thermaltake TR2-M6 SE cooler
- 425W MaxSilent MS4 2xSata 20/24Pin 12cm PCI-X: € 15.90
- AC97 5.1 - 6 channel sound
- 10/100 Ethernet LAN DSL ready

1

778,79 €

778,79 €

Summe Warenwert (Netto): 654,45 €
MwSt. (19%): 124,34 €

Summe Warenwert (Brutto): 778,79 €

than you have around 250 euro to make some things better.soundcard ofr better graphic card or 5.1 dolby etc.
well to solve all my problems
to get out of drugs
i'd had enough of that
i decided i was gonna'
find a new way of life

Hi icy, i build a PC for a friend last week, i was in many shops and tired to choose best for him , it s what i took for his PC :

Proc : Intel core2Duo E6600 (2.4 Ghz) 289 €
mother board : Asus PW5 Deluxe (socket 775 core2dup, PCI Express 16x) 195 € (realy awsome card with new cooler systeme and wifi with telecommand)
RAM : 2x1024 Mo Danelec (DDR 800) on dualchannel mod 200€
Graphik card : Nvidia 7900 Gs 256 Mo 175 €
Tower : Antec Sonatra2 with 480 W alim. ( i have same if u want realy sileent tower, u can t have better , Antec 's towers r awsome) 99€
Mouse : razer Habu 2000 dpi laser 50€
keyboard Logitech G15 66 €

(for hardsisk , he used his oldest one , choose good one , personaly ihave a 320 Go maxtor for data and a 70 Go Raptor on raid 0 mod for the system)

Total : 1074 €

Think with this kind of PC , u will be damn quite for long timo.

For processors, forget AMD, against intel's core2dum AMD proc, are now realy useless. For motherboards, i alwayz take Asus, for me best motherborads. Graphik card, i alwayz take nvidia but Radeon have nices cards too, so u have to choose. For Rams, don t take noname rams, try to have good ones :Kingstone, Corsair, danelec ....

Good shopping

RAZER COPPERHEAD 2000
No, select G5, better if you're right handed.
Asus PW5 Deluxe
Isn't better P5B (dunno how it looks but P5B Deluxe or PB5 Deluxe)? More overclocking !
Nvidia 7900 Gs 256 Mo 175 €
I suggest, wait for 8600 & 8300 and buy f.e. 8600 GS/GT.

Wensz (how to write your nick, which letters should be high?), i think BowDown's little modified proposition is better.

Aww, icy, try to buy your new PC in one of shops in your town! Not in the net-shop.

Don't forget to buy Be Quiet! Straight Power 500W (i suggest 500W, it is one of bests ..... [omg just you know, i don't know how look this word!])

You should buy your own ...... ( look up), because these which are added into tower, are usually USELESS, and may FU** your PC after few days. Don't expect that added ........ are not Codegens :P

Power supply

Ice already said that he doesn't know a lot about pc's so overclocking
possibilities are not needed. And these days overclocking isn't a big issue anyway, there is not a lot more you can get out of it anymore.

CHEAP AND EASY

Postby BigRat » Sat Mar 24, 2007 19:16

Hello Ice.
I'd like to add myproposition. I'ts called as a topic. Cheap and easy.
The best way to upgrade is to buy a RAM and a new graphic card.
I think that your mainboard can support a new pocesor ( UP TO 2000 - 2400 Mhz) and bios update.
The good think: all the parts (exept graphic) schuld be cheap.
The bad think: buying new atlon 2000 -2400 is almost inposible, so
you schoud serch in e-bay or alegro.
In fact, the main point in gaiming is the graphic card. Even now your proc.
schould handle most new games.
I think that your mainboard can support a new processor ( UP TO 2000 - 2400 Mhz-bios update).
GRAPHIC CARD
New graphic card will cost you about 100$ (ATI Radeon 1600 Pro)
It's not the TOP graphic card, (but for example oblivion should works well)
RAM
I dont know your type of RAM, but i gess it's a DIMM type.
It's an old type of ram. It's hard to buy a new one. Hard but not impossible.
I've found 512 MB Dimm ram - about 55$.
PROCESOR
In my opinion you don't need to change it.
If you want to do it, you have to know the socket type of your
motherboard, and search over internet.
So, spending about 200$ will give U visible power up in all
applications U use.
If u decide to do such a buy, be prepared to spend some more money
after a year or two. You will have to by a new PC.

ye indeed but have a look on the site which wensz posted above ( http://ankermann-pc.com/de/ ). there u can also build the computer on ur own decision. sure it's cheaper to get those different hardware elements from somewhere else but for me it's better to pay about 100-200 € more and get it builded by somebody with experience in it. i'm thinking about windows vista, i know a lot talk bad about but i think it will grow up in some weeks / months and is just the basicly future in OS-Systems. 4 sure Linux is a nice alternative, but i think i stay on vista. it's just the point i wait maybe 1-2 months longer to be sure, vista is free (mostly free) from failures and tested enough by others

Ok !ce, good choice  If you go to vista, theres 2 options now, Nvidia Geforce 8800 GTX or GTS, because those are only videocards which supports DX10 and with vista you can play those games, DX10 is new technology which makes games shine

http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showpos ... ostcount=1

You can only get DX10 preferences to use with vista and DX10 supported graphigs card, and those 2 are cards which supports them, but those are compatible downwards and you can play older games too and those are most powerful cards nowdays, I really support you to get one of those, no point to use old technology when you can get better.. Differences between those two cards are that GTX is little more powerful and more expensive, GTS should be fine.. I think others agree too with that idea, when you buy that you are looking wisely forward, no use to buy old technology.
