How about this selection?

It is a little over your budget Image
but maybe you don't need the monitor or the extra cpu cooler as it usually comes with one.

Totally bullshit. OEM means parts are build by other companies but the final company will sell it under their name. Why should the final company outsource their production to other companies? Because it's cheaper or they're specialized in it.

E.g.
Philips doesn't produce PC screens anymore. Although you can still buy them. Why? Because it is being produced by a Chinese company. Do you have warranty on the screens? Sure, if not, no one would buy a Philips but a screen from the competitor.

This is a fairly well known issue with harddisks.

If you spend a lot of time playing ET it became a big part of your life so you might as well make that big part of your life as good as you reasonably can. I spent over 2800 in the past just to play ET and I don't regret it. I'm not rich btw :P

Well don't you think it's a bit outdated? Perhaps it was like that in the past, but as far as I know you'll see it less these day. Even if your HDD is forked up, what does it cost nowadays? €40 / 500GB.

for 1000 euros you can have much more better computer than this "shitty" athlon

something like this ... build on intel i7 or i5(like Necros comment, its cheaper and you have more space for grafic card.)

http://img545.imageshack.us/f/79364220.jpg/ its from slovakai shop as we dont have euros and i am lazy to recalculate it :D

there is everything necesary for PC except grafic card ... as i suggest to wait for new Radeon 6900 series ... but maybe the prices will be to high so you will choose 6800 which are much better then anything else on market now.

The 6800 aren't that good to be honest. They seem to be somewhat equal to the 5800 series.

As long as it's topic-related it still can help, so it doesn't matter if it's old or not. ;)
