The Pacific is a new mini series from the creators of Band of Brothers, Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks. The story focusses on the events in Japan during WWII, and will premier at March 14th 2010.

Official Site: HBO: The Pacific
IMDb: "The Pacific"

The Pacific is based primarily on two memoirs of U.S. Marines: With the Old Breed by Eugene Sledge and Helmet for My Pillow by Robert Leckie. The series will tell the stories of the two authors and Marine John Basilone, as the war against the Empire of Japan rages. Additional material for The Pacific is provided from the books Red Blood, Black Sand (Chuck Tatum), and China Marine (Eugene B. Sledge).

Given the literary sources mentioned above, the series will feature well-known battles involving the 1st Marine Division, such as Guadalcanal, Cape Gloucester, Peleliu, and Okinawa, as well as Basilone's involvement in the Battle of Iwo Jima.

Hugh Ambrose has authored the official tie-in book to the series, which follows the stories of the three men featured in the series as well as stories of their fellow Marines. It is set to publish in the US and UK in March 2010.

Well this sure does look good Mr. Ape. I will be sure to note the release date and download them right away to my PC!
That's how it has to work for us Europeans being denied good series on television :P
Spielberg and Hanks, can only end in a perfect experience!

Edit: Dutch, as far as I know it ain't gonna happen on the release date :P
And sometimes I do doubt if you're even human ...

Yep that's true, unless you have HBO. Heard they cut off the intro in one country though xD
For the Dutchies; The Pacific will air on Veronica @ April 3th.

Watched the first ep. last night, kinda mixed feelings but that's probably because I know far less about the war in the Pacific than the war in Europe.

Intro with some veterans again, a great artsy opening sequence, a strong musical score and great cinematography. Not as dark (desaturated) and gritty as BoB, well duh.. it's the freaking tropics, but the action itself is a lot more gruesome.

Gotta love those Japanese Banzai attacks, the 1st ep even features a tactic from one of our latest topics ;) Yeah, bon appétit.

Anyway, first ep. was nice, no Curahee (training) though but I hope there will be a little more field tactics in the upcoming episodes.

Sounds like a really good episode actually :) I might download it.
To anyone who wants to download series and stuff here is a good website, but I only recommend using it with a rapidshare account :)

*snap* If anyone want the side contact me ;)

Apps/movies/series/Ebooks etc.
all available there and I use it for all the series I watch :D.
When I get time I will make sure to watch the Pacific :)

Watched the first one. Nothing extremely different from the other ww2 movies i've seen. But the story is thrilling. They're like the kind of episodes which makes me want to see the next episode no matter what :P . Although i prefer to get the action from it in one piece.

Im afraid U can be a little bit disapointed about that "field tactics" that u re looking for. As U probably know, Pacific's scenario was created on two books: "Helmet for My Pillow" (first 2 episodes) and "With the Old Breed", which re very good ones as i heared (never read), but they re more telling how soldiers were living that war and what were their feelings (wrote by two vets, ye). U rather wont know from them where exactly defensive postions were, if u know what i mean. This the biggest diference between Pacific and BoB. Ambrose were driving all the Europe with Winters and told him to point where every stupid browning was ;] Here, it's all up to scenarists.

Well, in 3rd episode scenarists re changing so maybe it's gonna be better :>

all 10 were awesome. i recommend it. theres not much action, but its mainly focused on their feelings at wars and after it. it gives a nice review what really went on in those wars.

Pacific -->Band of Brothers--->Generation Kill

Just can't stand the amount of patos in most productions signed by S.Spielberg.
And music is just terrible imo
Still Generation Killis the leader between all war series.

I like those kind of series and movies,i talk with a lot of people who where in war in croatia and when you hear those kind of storys, you dont know if you will cry or laugh.
Everybody says, those who never went to war just cant understand what that soldier next to you means to you in that moment.
So if it is 10 % of Band of brothers i will like it very much.
