No Quarter 1.2.7 has been released today. One of the biggest changes in this release, that will affect both players and server owners, is the shortened mod name (install path) from noquarter to nq. This means that a new nq folder will be created in your Enemy Territory directory.
Tip: Create a new folder called 'nq' in your ET directory, and copy your existing profile folder (and configs) from your 'noquarter' folder into this new folder.
This change was made in an effort to shorten the config string and thereby reducing the risk of max_gamestate_chars errors on maps like Fuel Dump and Venice. Other updates include actual war modes like panzer- and sniperwars, a couple of new awards, and bullet whizz (fly-by) sounds to add that little bit of extra realism.
Last week Evenbalance released a new Punkbuster server update, version 1.759. Followed by a client update, version 2.213, which was released last night.
On first look, the new updates seem to fix the initialisation (or start-up) lags that plagued the previous versions, released earlier this summer. Back then, a lot of players reported lags that would go on for 3-5 minutes after connecting to a pb enabled server.
The new client update will be downloaded automatically, while connected to a pb enabled server. Manual updating, for those who like to be prepared, is also possible through pbweb.exe (found in your pb folder) or pbsetup.
Are you still experiencing lags on pb enabled servers? Let us know.
